RBI invites comments on draft Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA) Framework
7 August 2026 | Reserve Bank of India
The RBI on 7 August 2026 invited public comments on draft Directions on the 'Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA) Framework'. CVA reflects the adjustment to default risk-free derivative prices to account for potential counterparty default; the CVA capital charge ensures banks hold enough capital against such risk.
The extant CVA framework dates from 2011 and was based on BCBS standards of 2010. The draft permits banks in India to adopt the basic approach (BA-CVA), in a full or reduced version, in line with the final Basel III framework.
Key facts- Draft issued: 7 August 2026
- Existing framework: 2011 (BCBS 2010 standards)
- Approach: basic approach (BA-CVA), full or reduced
- Basis: final Basel III framework
