SEBI sets a uniform 30-day lag for market price data used in education, effective 1 July 2026
8 May 2026 | The Economic Times
Carried forward from 8 May 2026. The Economic Times reported that SEBI, in a circular on Friday, 8 May 2026, mandated that market infrastructure institutions such as stock exchanges, clearing corporations and depositories ensure market price data used for educational and awareness purposes carries a mandatory 30-day lag. The provisions take effect from 1 July 2026.
The circular replaces two earlier frameworks. A 2024 circular allowed sharing price data for educational purposes with a one-day lag, and a 2025 circular set a three-month lag for use of such data in education, which caused confusion. The report says NISM, SEBI's training arm, gets an exception for its simulation lab.
Key facts- Circular date: 8 May 2026
- Lag: 30 days for sharing and usage of price data for education
- Effective: 1 July 2026
- Replaces: one-day (2024) and three-month (2025) lag norms
Exam takeaway: Market infrastructure institutions are stock exchanges, clearing corporations and depositories.
