PIB: Indian households pay among the lowest LPG prices; Ujjwala households get Rs 300 per cylinder

7 June 2026 | Press Information Bureau

PIB said on 7 June 2026 that an Indian household buys cooking gas cheaper than households in neighbouring countries and in the United States, Australia and Canada. A Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiary pays an effective Rs 642 for a 14.2 kg cylinder, and a general consumer in Delhi pays Rs 942, against a cost to supply that has risen to over Rs 1,600.

Ujjwala households receive Rs 300 per cylinder on the first four refills each year, which is Rs 1,200 per beneficiary per year. The release states an under-recovery of about Rs 700 on each domestic cylinder, against a Saudi CP for LPG that has risen by about 46 per cent since February, and that India kept its energy cargoes moving through the Strait of Hormuz with no shortage of any petroleum product.

Key facts
  • PMUY effective price: Rs 642 per 14.2 kg cylinder
  • General consumer, Delhi: Rs 942
  • Cost to supply: over Rs 1,600; under-recovery about Rs 700 per cylinder
  • Ujjwala support: Rs 300 on first four refills a year (Rs 1,200)
